In Science and Technology, artificial intelligence is expanding beyond chatbots into video, biology, infrastructure and autonomous systems. Chinese companies are investing heavily in “world models” capable of generating and manipulating video, while demand for computing power is placing pressure on electricity grids, data-center construction and specialized chips.
Autonomous technology is producing sharply different outcomes. An AI-piloted drone reportedly killed civilians in Ukraine, while uncrewed systems have launched missiles in military exercises and delivered a lifebuoy to a drowning swimmer. The technology itself is not the moral agent; its objectives, safeguards and human oversight determine whether it saves lives or causes harm.
Researchers are also repurposing fiber-optic cables as underground sensors, developing blood tests for Alzheimer’s disease and improving noninvasive brain-computer interfaces. At the same time, experts warn that outsourcing too much reasoning to AI could weaken human judgment and accelerate cognitive atrophy.

In Money, bitcoin has climbed above $80,000 as investors respond to concerns about currency debasement, a weaker dollar and the possibility of looser financial conditions. The rally reflects bitcoin’s appeal as an alternative store of value, but analysts warn that its gains remain vulnerable to high interest rates, regulation and changing institutional demand.
The economics of AI remain unsettled. OpenAI’s reported annualized revenue has surpassed $40 billion, while investors continue to debate whether leading closed models will capture most of the industry’s value. Meanwhile, the infrastructure required to run them is becoming increasingly expensive, with data centers facing public opposition, grid congestion and shortages of essential equipment.

In Entertainment, HBO has announced the fourth season of The Gilded Age and released an early teaser. The new chapter will return to the rivalries between New York’s old-money families and its newly wealthy elite, with ornate costumes, glittering parties and opera-house spectacle.
Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon and Morgan Spector are among the returning cast members. Created by Julian Fellowes, the series will continue exploring power, class and social influence in America’s Gilded Age. HBO has scheduled the season for 2026, although an exact premiere date has not been announced.
