Tata Consultancy Services, India’s largest information-technology services company, is preparing to invest as much as $7.4 billion in an artificial-intelligence data-center campus, underscoring the growing competition to build computing capacity for advanced AI systems.
The planned campus would expand TCS’s ability to provide cloud, data-processing and AI services to corporate customers.
The investment reflects a broader shift across the technology industry, where demand for specialized chips, high-capacity servers and reliable power is driving a surge in data-center construction.
TCS, a unit of the Tata Group, has not indicated how quickly the full investment would be deployed or provided detailed information about the campus’s location, construction timeline or financing.
The project could strengthen India’s position as a major destination for digital infrastructure while supporting the country’s ambitions to develop domestic AI capabilities.
It also signals that large technology-services firms are moving beyond software consulting and investing directly in the infrastructure needed to train and operate increasingly sophisticated AI models.
