The Metropolitan Museum of Art has canceled its planned 2027 exhibition on fashion designer John Galliano, ending preparations for a showcase that was expected to examine his influential career and controversial legacy.

The decision removes Galliano from one of fashion’s most prominent cultural platforms.

The exhibition was scheduled to explore his work at major design houses, including Dior and Maison Margiela.

Galliano has faced lasting criticism since 2011, when an antisemitic outburst in Paris led to his dismissal from Dior and widespread condemnation.

Although he later apologized and returned to fashion, debate over how his professional achievements should be weighed against his conduct has continued.

The Met did not immediately provide a detailed public explanation for the cancellation. The museum’s decision comes as cultural institutions face increasing scrutiny over exhibitions involving artists and designers whose work is celebrated alongside serious personal controversies.
